INTRODUCING

In Search of Tomorrow

Advisor Circle

A UNIQUE 12-MONTH '80s SCI-FI EXPERIENCE

Sci-Fi fans, this is your chance to immerse yourself in the world and mythos of ‘80s science fiction. In celebration of In Search of Tomorrow entering pre-production, we’ve created a very special program for the most dedicated and passionate fans of ‘80s Sci-Fi movies.

Our Advisor Circle is a unique 12-month experience. You will get exclusive insights into the documentary-making process, help shape the direction the project takes, and get access to some very special guests.

We’ve created this experience for the superfans who live and breathe ‘80s Sci-Fi; the diehards who delight in the small details and can discuss their favourite films endlessly. If that’s you, we want you to lend us your enthusiasm and knowledge to help us make this documentary a success.

Here’s a quick overview of what members of the Program will be getting involved in:

  • Q&A with some of the biggest names in ‘80s Sci-Fi put your burning questions to the talent behind your favourite films

  • Shape the In Search of Tomorrow documentary – you will become part of the ultimate focus group, advising us on who you want interviewed and what you want to hear about

  • Participation in our Digital Film Club – join us for special presentations from ‘80s Sci-Fi experts and moderated discussions on a curated selection of ‘80s Sci-Fi classics

  • Regular interactions with our production team – get an all-access pass to our production process

  • Livestreamed guest lectures – expert lecturers provide insights into specific aspects of filmmaking and worldbuilding

  • Membership of a passionate and committed community – share, discuss, and relive your favourite movie memories with like-minded fans

  • Kickstart your documentary career – you’ll be credited as an advisor on both IMDB and in the documentary credits. Ideal for film students, aspiring filmmakers, or anyone who wants a fun project to add to their resume

  • Exclusive merchandise – All Program members get a unique physical (DVD or Blu-Ray) edition, including physical copies of some of the best guest lectures in the Program (available nowhere else), plus a certificate of completion

SOUNDS GOOD? JUST WAIT UNTIL YOU HEAR ABOUT THE DOCUMENTARY

YOU'LL BE HELPING CREATE

Our Vision

"In Search of Tomorrow" will be the most comprehensive retrospective of the '80s Sci-Fi movie genre ever made. Journey back with us to a time of childhood wonder, imagination, and unlimited possibility as we explore the films that defined our perspective of the future.

This documentary will be our love-letter to the Sci-Fi films we grew up with; the films that dared to ask, "what if?" and offered us a vision of future technology, society, and culture that simultaneously delighted, amazed and scared us.

We still remember the magic of seeing these films for the first time, and we’ve been trying to recapture that feeling ever since. Vader’s redemption, Ripley’s duel with the Alien Queen, Roy Batty’s “Tears in Rain”, and many more. Moments that surprised us. Moments that moved us. Moments that left a lasting impact on our subconscious. Years later, we’re still trying to recreate these transformative experiences.

The completed documentary will be the ultimate resource for ‘80s Sci-Fi movie fans, packed with interviews that give a fresh perspective on the films we know and love. We'll be speaking to actors, directors, special effects maestros and writers to uncover untold stories and celebrate the unique and wonderful worlds they created.

We'll also be speaking to those who were inspired by these films: the science fiction fans who grew up to become the world-leading engineers, scientists, and inventors who are building today's future. We want to speak to the likes of Tim Berners-Lee, inventor of the internet, on Wargames; Tesla mastermind Elon Musk on Back To The Future’s DeLorean; and Nolan Bushnell, pioneering founder of Atari, on The Last Starfighter.

We want to make this documentary to celebrate, explore, and recontextualise these films and the influence they’ve had both on ourselves and our culture. We want to go beyond the movies, to the science, technology, and art they’ve inspired. We want to create this documentary as a time capsule, capturing unheard stories and perspectives not just for us, but for future generations.

We want to do this project for all these reasons, and for the simplest one of all – because when the lights go down, we’re all kids again.

Why We've Created the Advisor Circle

The Advisor Circle is an extension of our team philosophy. All our documentaries are made for fans, by fans; the difference is that this time you could be helping make the film, instead of just watching it. This is part of our vision to democratize filmmaking; working closely with fans enables us to create better documentaries.

In each of our previous projects we’ve been pleasantly surprised by the community that has sprung up around them. This time, we’re putting the tools and structures in place to help that happen from the beginning: the Advisor Circle is going to be more than just discussions and Q&As and presentations (good though those will be) – we’re creating a community. This will be the place where there will always be someone ready and willing to discuss your favorite ‘80s Sci-Fi films.

Finally, the funds raised from the Advisor Circle will be funnelled straight back into the documentary. For our previous documentaries, we started our Kickstarter campaigns with very little funds. Your early support for the program will enable us to create better promotional materials and raise more money at later funding rounds.

Advisor Circle Details:

A Year-Long '80s Sci-Fi Experience

The Advisor Circle will launch in mid-August and run for 12 months, covering pre-production, production, and post-production of In Search of Tomorrow. This is the only program of its kind, and a one-off chance for Sci-Fi superfans to engage with their favourite films in a new and exciting way.

The only way to get access to these sessions is by joining our Advisor Circle. We will not be using the interviews, lectures, or film club materials in the documentary, nor will we be distributing them beyond the Advisor Circle.

Here’s a bit more detail on what we have planned:

Q&A Sessions

We are organizing a series of live video Q&A's with some of the talent who will be appearing in our documentary. Members will get the opportunity to livestream the Q&A's, submit their own questions, and get unique insights into the making of some of their favourite films.

This is a unique opportunity to interact with the talent that you’ve watched in some of your favorite movies and ask the questions that don’t get covered in regular interviews.

Digital Film Club

Our Digital Film Club will review a handpicked prospectus of ‘80s Sci-Fi movies. We’ll all watch the film then gather together for an accompanying presentation from either a film expert or a talent involved in creating the film. The presentation will provide expert analysis of the film and provoke discussion within the group.

After the presentation, members of the program will engage in a moderated discussion on the points raised by both the film and the presentation. This is a fantastic opportunity to widen your film knowledge, expose yourself to other viewpoints, and give your opinion on the messages and intentions behind these films.

Access to Our Production Team

You’ll have regular access to our production team through our monthly production webinars. We’ll be talking transparently about the successes and challenges we experience as we produce the documentary. You’ll get insight into the documentary and crowdfunding process and regular opportunities to quiz our production team on the experience.

What we discuss is up to you - do you want to know more about the business side of making a documentary, the equipment we use to create our films, or what it’s like to interview top ‘80s Sci-Fi stars? This is the place to find out.

Guest Lectures

Our Advisor Circle members are invited to join us for a series of presentations from experts on specific aspects of ‘80s Sci-Fi. You’ll learn about filmmaking, worldbuilding, and hear behind-the-scenes stories from your favorite films. These will be in-depth and full of information that would be impossible to find elsewhere.

Community

The Advisor Circle is about community. Guest lectures and Q&A sessions are great, but you’re missing out on half the fun if you’re accessing them alone. Our private Discord group will enable members to hop on and discuss their favorite films with other like-minded fans at any time of day.

We’ve got two dedicated community managers who’ll be working hard to provoke discussion and ensure everything runs smoothly.

Interact With Talent

Our Q&A sessions, digital film club, and guest lectures will give you access to many of the talent we’re working with. Take a look at some of the incredibly talented individuals we’ve already worked with over our past two documentaries. Who do you want the chance to hear from?

Mission Report

In Search of Tomorrow will be our third documentary, following our successful In Search of The Last Action Heroes and In Search of Darkness. These documentaries have been backed by thousands of fans and given us access to fan-favorites such as John Carpenter, Paul Verhoeven, Mario Kassar, and Bill Duke.

It was during these documentaries that we trialled the idea of the Advisor Circle, inviting selected fans to come alongside us and help us create better documentaries. Here’s what they had to say about the experience:

"I cannot put into words how strongly I have enjoyed working with everyone at CreatorVC. I have made friendships, become directly involved in a project that I’ve wanted to make for years, and I’m doing something I’m proud of."

Dominic Wallis

Advisor

“Being a part of an advisory team with CreatorVC is an extremely collaborative and rewarding experience. What I enjoy most is the level of creative freedom and responsibility that the opportunity presents.

Your First Mission:

Assisting Pre-Production

Your first mission will be to help us plan what we’re going to cover in our documentary. We’ve already started brainstorming the topics we’ll cover in the documentary, but we’ll be opening a dialogue with members of our Advisor Circle to find out what they think and want to see. We can’t include everything, and we’ll be looking to you to help us make some tough decisions.

Here’s a quick look at the topics we’re considering covering:

  • Learn about the '80s Sci-Fi era from the perspective of the directors, producers, actors, and writers who brought our favourite stories to the big screen.

  • Investigate how pioneering SFX, practical effects, epic miniatures, and the earliest advances in CGI brought spaceships, extra-terrestrials, and alien landscapes to life.

  • Explore Sci-Fi's long-lasting impact on our culture, science, technology, and art and how it inspired some of the technologies we take for granted today.

  • Examine how Sci-Fi influenced the development of many of today's game-changing technologies: artificial intelligence, electric vehicles, communication systems, cryptocurrency and more.

  • Critiques and new perspectives will provide a deeper understanding of our favourite Sci-Fi moments.

  • Take a deep-dive into ‘80s aesthetic: retro dashboards, HUDs and computers. How does the ‘80s vision of the future stand up today?

  • Revisit our favourite heroes and heroines – Solo, Ripley, Deckard, Connor, Muad’Dib, The Ghostbusters, RoboCop, and more.

  • Take a fresh look at the weapons that thrilled us - the blasters, phasers, lightsabers, and proton packs

  • Explore the fictional corporations in ‘80s Sci-Fi - Weyland Yutani, Cyberdyne Systems, and OCP - and how they reflected the view of the future

Your mission will be to cast a critical eye over our plans. Which forgotten gems have we missed? What other topics should we cover? What can we do that will make this the ultimate documentary for ‘80s Sci-Fi fans?

These, and other important questions, will shape the future of the documentary - no pressure!

Prepare for Liftoff

Over the next 12 months, our Advisors will help shape our documentary, interact with some of their favourite talent from ‘80s Sci-Fi films, join our digital film club, take part in a thriving community, and so much more. And you’re invited.

To celebrate the launch of the program we’re offering places for just $650 (which can be spread over four monthly payments of $162.50). That’s less than $1.80 for each day of the experience - you probably spend more on coffee! We’ll be putting the price back up on the 1st August; click the button below to lock-in your discounted price.

The money we raise from this program will form the initial seed for the documentary and will directly impact our future success making it: your contribution will help us get access to more talent and make a better documentary.

FAQ

What Happens If I’m Not Available To Join a Livestream?

We’ll be recording all the Q&As, Guest Lectures, Production Hangouts, and Digital Film Club Sessions so you can catch up at your leisure.

Do You Offer Refunds?

We offer a 14-day refund period from the time of purchase. After that, the funds are invested into the documentary.

Are there other ways to support the documentary?

Yes, we plan to run a Kickstarter campaign in November where you'll be able to pre-order the documentary on Blu-Ray/DVD and receive a complete selection of associated merchandise including T-Shirts, Posters and Postcards. We'll also be offering Associate Producer, Producer and Executive Producer rewards. Please sign-up to our mailing list to get the latest updates.

What's the status of your previous two documentaries?

Both In Search Of The Last Action Heroes and In Search Of Darkness are now in post-production and are due to be released to backers in September 2019. We will not run a Kickstarter or Indiegogo campaign for In Search Of Tomorrow until both our previous documentaries are released.

I want to join the Advisor Circle, but I can't afford it. Why is it so expensive?

The Advisor Circle is an excellent alternative to an Associate Producer Credit (they are a similar price point), so we recognise it's not affordable for most of our backers, but it's a premium service for 'superfans', and we're comfortable that our unique value proposition deserves the investment. You can still follow our progress on social media @80ssifidoc and by signing up to our mailing list to get the latest updates.

How much time will I need to put into the program to get the most out of it?

We expect you'll spend 3-5 hours per month with us.

How many members will be part of the Advisor Circle?

We're limiting the group to twenty members.

When will the interactive Q&A's take place?

We're optimising the schedule for US timezones.
